POETRY
A Sticky Situation
Deanna Paul
Writer of the Month

We caught her
100 Acres from the Woods
wearing white, a cotton dress
with porridge stains, raisins
and honey on her breath,
goose feathers almost disguised
by her long golden locks.
She looked just right

to fit the three Bears' description.
Someone's been lying
in the forest, we said.
Better than any guilty tale
she could spin: blowing
on burning breakfasts or dandelions,
blue balloons or rolling in mud
to float like a little black raincloud.
Eeyore played it best, she thought.
Let his tail fall off
before he got pinned.

Deanna Paul is a New York City prosecutor by way of Miami Beach, Florida, where she handles violent crimes against children and felony sex crimes. Deanna is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law and a member of the New York City Bar Association's Domestic Violence Committee. Not as quiet as she appears, Deanna plans to keep using her words and creating as best she can--she hopes to make a lot of noise in this world.
