POETRY
Skeletons of Former Selves
Eric Mattson

Rains drops darkness
Heavier than the city
Shadows follow chained
To the night

Lost geniuses fall apart in the streets
Trying to glue together what they used to be

While suited beggars see if all life
Has been sucked from the
Bones of former glory

Following the map of vanity
You’d mistake innocence for truth.
Fury has its power
It charges by the hour

In nature I denounce a goddess
But chase pitifully
In a symphony of city streets.
Starved in a metropolis
Of uncontrollable appetites expanding.

Submit and captured by the sea.
Tides connect the depth of the mind
To mysterious waters.
My disassembly forged another birth,
Dissolving former selves into
One

Reality drags a Rimbaud
In reverse
We wait for our time
We wait for our time
Till then,
I wear jewels in my eyes
