Houdini’s Excursion by Aaron Wiegert

Suspended from himself, Harry left his body
and pulled back the curtain on a pervasive darkness.

With a grin shaking loose teeth, his brick feet
Stepped about the frames of busted light bulbs.

Specters wrapped gaily on paper walls.
Their droning came to resurrect
the longing for Ennui:
The sweet kick of its pained drip.

But the floor gave and Harry came crashing
Down, stirring up dust from the crumbled vault.

Inside moonlight’s cage, there is a man
We all know but seldom mention.

A man who mulls about with great purpose,
Honing the black tip of our pocket ace.
