Colors of the Old Testament by Aaron Wiegert

I'm learning the Old Testament
From a coloring book.

Pages outlined by legions
Of plague, whips and slaves,
50 shades of God’s wrath.

The Hebrews and Egyptians
Have Aryan features
But I made them brown.

It’s blaspheme, my neighbor says,
Though I don’t see any goat’s blood
On his front door.

I love angry God, jealous
Of a golden calf and the way
He spoke through a flaming plant.

Eyes drawn to the Gospel,
But when I couldn’t find
The section relating to the crucifixion

Depicted by Mel Gibson,
I joined Moses’ Exodus
In the midst of the Blank Sea.
