In the Absence of the Heart by Lennart Lundh

Cross-legged on the floor,
he looks across the lawn,
sings love songs
which are not for her.

(Items scribbled on some paper,
equally for some else:
complementary in their opposition;
fidelity in the absence of the heart;
the dancing children reflected.)

It is early yet.
He does not know if times are right
to probe into these words.

Lennart Lundh is a poet, historian, short-fiction writer, and photographer. His work has appeared internationally since 1965. Len and his wife, Lin, reside in northern Illinois, where he manages text acquisitions for a university.
