where characters always look back at each other
into the darkness
into the darknesses made of loneliness and heartbreak
and the pure black shadows of movie theaters

The girl on the screen
backs out the door and into the night
and the girl who watches turns to the camera
to look at the girl in the darkened theater
who turns to look at me
and show me her broken heart with her lonely eyes
as I back out of the shadows and into the night
