The bagger hoists
the last sack of groceries
into the cart.
I nod my thanks,
and give him
my “just being polite” smile.
Have a good weekend,
he mumbles
as I push the cart toward the exit.
It’s 10:42
on a Monday morning;
I fear for my tomatoes and grapes.
