In spite of his lifelong love of the movies, Ryan Roach had always had a reflexive dislike of films made before the 1970s. But, by his own admission, he had seen very few films made before that time. Spurred on by challenges from friends, Ryan set an ambitious goal: he would watch, and review, every one of the American Film Institute’s Top 100 Films. Now, almost exactly a year later, he has accomplished his goal.

INTERVIEWSusan Pierce

An interview with Los Angeles Valley College English Professor Susan Pierce, originally published in December 2011, about the rise of social media and its effect on human identity and connection.

Burbank native Nathan Alan Schwartz is a busy young man. At only 25 years old he manages to juggle his responsibilities as an editor on Sopphey Vance’s Enhance Magazine, his studies as a Film major at Los Angeles Valley College, and work on his first book of poetry, the upcoming The Melancholy Spectator. In addition to all of that, Schwartz will be launching Five 2 One Magazine on the On Impression network (the parent network of Drunk Monkeys) in November.

It’s standard for aspiring filmmakers to leave their small towns behind and come to Hollywood. Independent filmmaker Scott Honea has found success by taking the opposite route. After spending several years working office jobs in Los Angeles while writing screenplays (two of which were optioned but never developed) and shooting short films with his writing partner Joshua Sitarz, Honea moved back to his hometown of Corsicana, Texas to direct his first full-length film.
