POETRY / The 80s party in 2019 / Sarah Haeckel
I was in a basement of people
in 80s clothing telling myself
Live in the moment Live in the moment
Kaya danced up to me with this
grin that made me feel 1 masculine
2 impossible to get along with
I just dont like hearing laughter
through a wall Id just rather be
single in a one bedroom apartment
or sort of rolling down a hill
collecting grass and speed
Kaya and I touched our plastic cups together
Like Cheers
If you saw that Modern Family episode
about grown men and their naked asses
bumping against each other in a locker room
Cuh-link
Weekends were confusing but Friday night
subway rides home were bad bad
Individual responsibility for structural injustice
Im not gonna force my kids/
dependants to live in the moment
Mommy’s dream doesn’t have to be theirs
