LETTER FROM THE EDITOR / June 2020 / Kolleen Carney Hoepfner
Hello, friends.
A lot has happened since April, and it's almost impossible to sum it all up in an adequate letter to you, our readers. I think I will try my hardest to keep this short and direct.
Black lives fucking MATTER. It should be obvious, if you've read us, to know that we believe this and support everyone still doing the hard work three weeks later in protesting for the rights and safety of the Black community. We're a small organization and we are doing all we can on our end, starting with donating $100 to the Minnesota Freedom Fund and continuing with various means of support on our personal levels. It's hard to find the right words to express what I am trying to express. Just know we're with you always and will continue to support you. We aren't forgetting.
It's such a strange time to say "Happy Pride", but I will say it anyway. Happy Pride month from your extremely bisexual EIC. Never forget that Pride was started by a Black trans woman. Never forget that Stonewall was a riot, and now we celebrate it every year.
We are still in the midst of a global pandemic, and maybe we shouldn't forget that, either. Wear your mask.
These months... they've been a lot. You'll forgive my lack of eloquence, I hope.
I hope you enjoyed our last issue. Big thanks to McKenzie Hurder for being our May Writer of the Month. Huge thanks to Ashley Elizabeth for being our June Writer of the Month. I believe you will appreciate her work as much as I have appreciated her friendship over the last few years.
Be well, be safe. Thank you for being here with us.
