Letter From the Editor<br>Kolleen Carney-Hoepfner

Hello friends,

It seems like in the past month there was enough poetry/literary drama to fill an Olympic size swimming pool and drown ourselves in it (which I felt like actually doing by the end of last week). I was going to recap a lot of this nonsense, but suffice to say: maybe don’t appropriate stuff, and maybe don’t be a creep or an asshole. Learn how to say sorry. Learn how to be a better person. I think that covers pretty much all of it, really.

Anyway, enough about that. Let’s talk about us!

It’s no secret that we’ve been striving to work towards a paying model. We’ve met with each other, we’ve hypothesized, we’ve crunched numbers, and we have a good idea as to where we need to be to get this party started. So, sometime in very early September we will be launching a fundraiser. We will need help achieving this goal, so I hope if you like us you’ll lend a hand, whether it be donating or sharing the link with your networks.

This year is flying by. It’s already August, summer is winding down, everything out there is still real bleak, but we have each other, and maybe if we hold on to one another tight we will make it through what seems to be a never-ending stream of bullshit.

This issue is pretty great. We have work by Mary Ann Honkaer, Jonathan Butcher, John Paul King, AnnElise Hatjakes, and many more; Mr. Butterchips is trying his hand on online dating; Gabriel Ricard is back to round up the movies of the month; our Writer of the Month, Jane-Rebecca Cannarella, is here to amaze you. I hope you enjoy the August issue of Drunk Monkeys as much as we do, and I hope to see you again in September.

Always,
Kolleen Carney Hoepfner
