Letter from the Editor
July 2018
Kolleen Carney Hoepfner
Editor-in-Chief
Where to begin? Like… wow, everything is terrible.
I don’t even have to recap the last few weeks: unless you live in a sensory deprivation tank, you know it’s all rough as fuck out there.
It’s also a thousand degrees pretty much across the country and everyone is miserable.
Recently, I was kicked off of Facebook for three days for citing a statistic regarding white men and violence. No hate speech allowed!!! says the company that is blasting itself across every medium to convince you that they’re making an effort to control misinformation.
It’s a (white) man’s world, regardless of how fucking fragile they all are.
All I have been doing lately is sleeping, eating, and watching stuff. TV makes the world disappear for a few hours. GLOW, The Muppets Take Manhattan, Nanette. Brooklyn 99. Queer Eye.
This country is a shitshow, so at least Love is there for me to rewatch for the sixth time.
I’m sorry, I know this is a depressing editor’s letter. Here, have some good stuff:
The past few months we’ve featured some incredible talent, and our Writers of the Month have been incredible. Roy and Logan gave us work that moved us tremendously, and now Caseyrenée is sharing their amazing poetry and it is fucking incredible. I am so honored that our WotMs trust us with such brilliance, and I hope you’ll enjoy it.
We have some big things on the horizon, including announcing our Best of the Net nominees and our upcoming Indie-a-gogo campaign, so keep your eyes open for those things.
Try to keep the peace in your soul in these troubling times, and I will do the same.
Always,
Kolleen
