POETRY
Relationships need verbs
Shloka Shankar
I can’t do stupid today.
These aren’t my pants (or jam hands).
I left behind a glass slipper
in a bottomless pit—
anger mixed with a paraly
zing weakness.
This circle we get into—
What is much? I recognize that tree.
The room is a wild jungle full
of gibberish and smells like guilt.
Tradition is a trap.
We’re almost there and now
here near it. The miracle
is over.
Monosyllabic mouth.
The charade.
Compound interest.
Please don’t make me
repeat that list again.
